This river is a nice beginner run, equal to that of C to G on the South Fork of the American. There were a few nice rapids of class II+ nature in addition to a nice few play spots. Supposedly as the water comes up there are several superb play waves as well. If one feels like running Cables, this is a pleasant run to add onto it to make for a more full day. I only ran the run at 540 cfs, and the run was only II+, supposedly with a little more water Ewing's becomes class III, and with even more water it begins to look like III+... perhaps this is true... but perhaps that is also a bit exaggerated.
Mi 0:
- Big Daddy (II+). As the nice houses come into view, the river turn left sharply against
an artificially river shore, a few holes need to be run while staying away from the
wall.
- Ewing's (II+). The river constricts between two boulders and creates a few holes
and waves. At low water you could run straight down the center.
Take out: Downtown Kernville, at the park.
Put in: Just before the Powerhouse as you drive out of Kernville, there is a dirt road that leads down to the water.
