Pyrenees 2018 - Day 5 Morning:
Putting in at camp we quickly found ourselves in the slalom and hole that hosted the 2001 (I think that is the year) world freestyle championships. This section of river is actually really fun, some nice fluffy holes at this flow! Then, things mellow out soon after for several kms. I found the action on this section of river to be less frequent that the section above Sort, however when there was action, I felt that it was a little bit bigger. A few less obvious lines existed, though again everything was still boat scoutable. Our plan was to go through the Congost de Collegats which was some 24 km downstream of our start. With the high water, one hour in, we went through a canyon. Having now idea what the canyon was supposed to actually look like, we thought perhaps we had reached the end and began looking for where Reiner would leave our car. Oh I forgot to mention, they went bike riding that day and were going to leave our car at take-out. I meant to bring my phone so I would have a map… but of course I forgot it. So we began getting nervous and hiked around and along the road thinking that we missed it. But… we didn't. For, around a few more corners… we passed through a small town and the canyon came into view.
For reference, we had 44 cumecs when we ran it. High. But it also didn't feel flooded.

Km 0.75:
- Sort (III to IV-). As you enter the town of Sort you get to the site of the slalom course and the play spots. The first part is class III but then as you pass under the bridge there are a set of ledges that approach class IV- because of power and because if you swim you are swimming through them all.
- Boogie (I to II). The boogie at the start of this run is mellow. But at the high flow, the entire thing had a fast pace. No flat water lakes at this flow!
- First Rapid (III- to III). Below the first bridge is a small rapid just run down the middle.
- Tree Island (III to IV). The biggest rapid on the run had a small island some log jams against the island. We ran center moving right through the top of the rock fence and then down the right channel.
Boogie
- Small Island (III- to III+). Another small island formed this rapid. We ran down the left channel and there were some nice big powerful waves in this. Long. But straight forward enough.
- First Canyon (III-). You approach the first canyon. It is mellow, but the scenery is nice.
- Foot bridge (III-). You hit a foot bridge as you enter the meat of the canyon. There is access here too. There is no real concern in the canyon.
- Canyon Exit (III). As you exit the canyon you get one or two more fun fluffy rapids before it mellows out again as you float into Gerri de la Sal
Take-out: 12.5 km south of Sort on N-260 is a small town of Gerri de la Sal. There is an old arch bridge on the northern side of town with parking at its upstream base.
Put-in: Go back to Sort and continue 1.2 km north on C-13 up the river to “Camping Noguera Pallaresa SA.”
