Piemonte / Ticino 2014: Day 7
Whoops, the one regret for the trip was heading over to do this run. Our friend was camping on the Maggia and saw class III to IV rapids, in alignment with the German book's description. It turns out that the water was too low for the wide open section upriver and that the class III rapids at the end were all too brief. There is a class V gorge downriver in the obvious tight canyon… it looks pretty on from the little I could see. But the video online made some of the drops look fun!
As it turned out, the most enjoyable part of the day was hanging out at the beach at take-out and rising off in the ice cold water. The least enjoyable part was the ice cream near the gorge section… overpriced and not remotely “gelato.” At least we salvaged that experience by heading straight to the Lower Verzasca for an evening lap.

- There is no mile by mile for this section. There were only like 2 rapids near the end and it was so low they had no real character.
Directions: Use the GPS locations to get yourself to put-in and take-out… below is just the extra little info you may need
Take-out: As you drive up the valley you will drive by the interesting looking Maggia Gorge, continue just upriver until you see a small weir and a parking area just off the road. Park here. Pay to park.
Put-in: Drive up however far you want to go. We used a campground, Bella Riva I believe was the name, to put-in. Just parked outside and walked on through.
